Serving the needs of the faithful in Southwestern Ontario

Cremation is the process by which the body of the deceased is reduced to its basic elements by rising fire and heat. The Catholic Church has permitted cremation since 1964. Once cremation has been chosen the Order of Christian Funerals must still be followed. When a body is cremated, the cremated remains must be treated with respect and must not be divided, scattered and not left at home. The cremated remains of a body must be buried or entombed according to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

If you are considering cremation, it is wise to discuss your choice with family, your parish priest or a Family Service Advisor at one of our cemeteries. Contact Heavenly Rest Family of Cemeteries in Windsor or Resurrection Cemetery in Sarnia to make cremation arrangements.
